As you might know the heritage presentations will be starting soon. Please remember to contact Mr. Southwell if you cannot present at the time you have been assigned. Here is the criteria and information:

My heritage presentation and story for the display

What do I have to do?

Find out as much as you can about your family history. Where your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were born, and if they migrated to Vancouver, the year they arrived, and the reason why they searched for a new start in life. Also, describe their values, occupations, and interests. You can go back as far as you wish.

Next, if any of your ancestors come from a different country, write a paragraph about their way of life ––the culture––and what the country is famous for. You will need to write about your family and ancestors (an outline of the above) for our display, outside the classroom. As you know, a map of the world is the central feature, and on the map we will put a pin to represent where your family members were born. It will be interesting to see if our collective ancestry covers every corner of ‘our common home’. As the bible teaches, we have a responsibility to care for all members of our greater family ––everyone in the world is either our brother or sister. Add illustrations, pictures, and photographs to your page if you wish. You will be asked to present your findings to the class, and you can include memorabilia, if you wish.

What do I hope to gain from my research?

Your family history is an important part of your identity. It helps you to answer one of life’s big questions: ‘Who am I?’ It will also give you a sense of belonging, because your path in life is a continuation of your ancestors. They have passed on the mantle like a sprinter passing a baton to a team member in a relay race. Indeed, we are all engaged in a race called ‘LIFE’, except we are not competing against each other, rather trying to find our best performance, so we can make a difference to the lives of others.

November: Scout (20) Tyler (21) Olivia (22) Xenon (23) Dominic (24) Alex (27) Hayden (28) Mackenzie (29) Noah (30)

December: Luan (1) Daniela (4) Sophia (5) Ava (6) Cooper (7) Bodil (8) Madelyn (11) Blair (12) Cristan (13) Lily (14) Eric (15)

'Big Words' test will now take place on December 1st. These are the words we are using in class. You are not expected to know how to spell all the words- just have a go! Sentences will be dictated containing the words, so you understand their meaning in the context being used. Also it is an oppurtunity for you to prove your abilty to use the correct punctuation is improving. These are the words:

Organisms, trillions, substance, dehydrated, heirlooms, anecdote, respiratory, circulatory, system, identity, perimeter, area, Matthew, trachea, diaphragm, contract, 02, C02, bronchioles, hypothesis, decaying, air sacs, alveoli, oxidised, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, epiglottis, polygon, rectangular, deduce and deduction.

Please remember to practice this song for we will be leading the mass: Bind Us Together

BIND US TOGETHER, Lord, Bind us together
With cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord,
Bind us together,
Bind us together with love.

There is only one God,
There is only one King;
There is only one Body,
That is why we sing:

Made for the glory of God,
Purchased by His precious Son;
Born with the right to be clean,
For Jesus the victory has won.

You are the family of God,
You are the promise divine;
You are God’s chosen desire,
You are the glorious new wine.
