Our gym was full of children on Monday after school as we hosted the Ladner Schools Grade 6 Volleyball Tournament. Our Grade 6 team were great hosts and we are proud of the way they represented the school at the tournament and throughout the season. Yesterday our Grade 7s played their year end tournament at DSS. Like our grade six team, I say thank you to the Grade 7 volleyball team for doing a great job representing our school. Thanks to all of the parents and staff who coached, refereed and drove to road “games.”
To help us prepare for the upcoming season of Advent, Father Tony Ricard will be at our school tomorrow afternoon (1 - 3pm) to speak to our children. Parents are welcome to attend. This Saturday the children receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation (on December 2) will be taking part in a retreat. Please keep these children, their families and the retreat leaders in your prayers.
We are planning a Student Release Drill on Monday afternoon, please see the attached letter for more information.
Unexcused Absence Protocol: This is a reminder that absences for reasons other than illness should be kept to a minimum. Loss of school time may jeopardize the child’s year and usually results in missing new concepts taught during his/her absence. If vacations must be arranged during school time, parents must notify teachers and the office of the trip at least one week prior to the child’s absence.
It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that any important class assignments missed during unexcused absences are attended to upon the child’s return. Further, it should not be expected that the teacher provide the child with materials prior to the holiday.
In order to receive the government grant, a child must be in attendance for a specified number of hours during the year. If a child were to miss too many hours due to holidays, this could jeopardize reception of the grant. In this case, the parents would be held responsible to pay the balance.
Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes: Thanks to your generosity, the Sacred Heart community donated over 170 shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child. These shoeboxes will go to children in need and help spread the love of Jesus. Thank you for living out our theme, "What Do You Want of Me, Lord?"
