This year we have a number of children taking advantage of the improvements made along Arthur Drive and riding their bikes to school. Please ensure that your child is bringing a lock to school to lock up their bike. The Corporation of Delta has invited the families and staff of our school to the Ladner Village and Arthur Drive Street Improvements Celebration this Friday, September 15. Please see the attachment for more information.
I am sure that many of you have noticed that the planters in front of the school are now overflowing with vegetation. Beets, turnips, spinach and kale, which were planted in the spring, will be harvested soon. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this project; from the parents who built the planters, to the people who prepared the soil, to those who planted the vegetables and finally to those who have watered all summer. All of your hard work is appreciated.

Odyssey of the Mind.......Interested?? Odyssey of the Mind is a program for students, in grades 3-7, that encourages creative thinking, team work and problem solving skills in a fun and friendly way.
Teams of 5-7 members solve a "Long Term" problem, which they create, produce, practice over 5-6 months and then present at competition in the spring. The problem might be to design a vehicle, produce a play or build a balsa wood structure - problems are different each year. In addition to this long term problem, the team is also presented at the competition with a "Spontaneous" problem, which they must solve or respond to in a short period of time. There is no one right answer, judges provide teams with feedback and reward them for creativity, quick thinking, and style in their solutions.
For more information about the program itself, visit; http://www.odysseybc.ca/
In the next few weeks students who are interested will bring home a permission slip to be signed and returned. If your child has questions about Odyssey of the mind they should find Ms. Wyenberg for more details.
