School History

1944

  • The School Sisters of Notre Dame teach in the Augustinian Monastery with 27 pupils in Grade 1 to 9.

1951

  • Enrollment reached 100 pupils.

1958

  • A new School consisting of four classrooms for Grades 1 to 8 was built under the direction of Father Othmar and the labor of parishioners and Army Personnel.
  • The auditorium was added and was also used as a church.

1970

  • A new classroom was added to the auditorium

1975

  • A Kindergarten class was added.

1978

  • A new room for Kindergarten was built allowing one classroom per grade.

1979

  • An Adventure Playground was constructed by some of the parents.

1980

  • A School Library was constructed at the back of the stage in the auditorium.

1982

  • Two new classrooms were added to the main buildings.
  • A Learning Assistance room and Staff room were added.
  • Learning Assistance program began

1983

  • A larger Kindergarten room was built.
  • P.E. change rooms were added.
  • A new Staff room was built in the old Kindergarten room.
  • P.R.E.P. coordinator and Principal each received an office.

1984

  • The 40th Anniversary of the School.
  • A School Choir began

1985

  • A Public Address (PA) System was Installed
  • Uniforms introduced.

1986

  • Additional equipment was added to the Adventure Playground.

1988

  • A Portable was purchased for Grade 7's.
  • The Library moved into the former Grade Seven room.
  • Computers were placed in the former Library area.
  • Family Groupings started.

1989

  • New windows installed east and west side of the classroom wing.
  • Computer Programs Developed.
  • The Enrichment Program began.
  • School Offices were renovated to provide a separate Principal's office.
  • The Adventure playground was upgraded and new equipment added.
  • 'Odyssey of the Mind' program began
  • 'Whole Language approach' used in Kindergarten to Grade 3.

1992

  • We say farewell to the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
  • A Teacher-Librarian was hired.

1994

  • A Second Kindergarten teacher is hired to teach a 3rd Kindergarten class in the staff room. 
  • The Staffroom moved into the kitchen.

1995

  • Addition of Portables.
  • Building Project initiated
  • New Computers purchased.

1996

  • The Library was moved into portables to make room for a second Kindergarten class.

1996

  • A second grade One class is added.
  • A Computer teacher hired.

1997

  • Expansion continues. (two Grade 2 classes)
  • Computer Lab built.

1998

  • Expansion continues (two Grade 3 classes)
  • Construction of new building begins.

1999

  • Expansion continues (two Grade 4 classes)
  • We move into the new building.
  • 'New School Opening' in September.

2001

  • The school has 15 divisions and 375 students enrolled.

2002

  • The school has 16 divisions and 380 students enrolled.
  • There are now 2 classes at each grade level from Kindergarten to Grade 7.

2003

  • Sacred Heart scored 1st overall in Delta on the FSA results for students in Grades 4 and 7 and placed 79th out of 813 elementary schools in the Province.
  • Enrollment has reached the 400 mark.
